Why Use CBD for Pets?

CBD for Pets are CBD-infused products designed with both pets and livestock animals in mind. Containing hemp-derived CBD oil, pet CBD supplements come in the form of treats and liquids that can be added to wet and dry foods.

Hemp CBD oil is a quality source of CBD, an exciting and non-intoxicating cannabinoid that encourages balance and wellness in your pet by interacting with their own native systems.

Widely used by humans to naturally promote health, CBD supplements can benefit your animals at home in the same way. All mammals -- including humans, dogs, cats, horses, alpacas, goats, pigs, and much more -- are born with the system necessary to benefit from CBD. That means your furry family member can likely benefit from daily CBD oil supplements in much the same way you do. As such, CBD products in controlled doses appear to be safe for both human and animal consumption.

What are the Benefits of CBD for Pets?

Giving your pet daily servings of CBD can naturally promote well being, similar to the human benefits of CBD. CBD supports your pet’s endocannabinoid system, a major signaling network that is responsible for influencing a wide range of functions and keeping them in balance.

Your pet’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS for short, works continuously to monitor functions and trigger adjustments whenever any outside factors cause any to become unstable, returning them to homeostasis. The ECS keeps important functions like immune response, appetite, sleep, mood, and metabolism running optimally.

A properly functioning endocannabinoid system is crucial for your pet maintaining health and wellness. CBD supports your animal’s endocannabinoid system by augmenting their own endocannabinoids. Once absorbed, CBD interacts with cannabinoid receptors to naturally stimulate the ECS and encourage its efforts to keep functions in homeostasis.

CBD’s influence on the endocannabinoid system promotes pets’ cardiovascular function, supports healthy joints, and promotes neurological health and emotional behavior.

While the American Veterinary Medical Association has yet to take an official stance on CBD oil as a nutritional supplement, they have adopted a position acknowledging the potential benefits of cannabis in pets: “There is a growing body of veterinary evidence … This herb may be able to improve the quality of life for many patients” Many veterinarians and pet owners have embraced the benefits of CBD for pets.

Hemp oil also contains a wide array of dietary nutrients that many pet owners find compliments the dietary requirements of their animal. Full-spectrum hemp-derived CBD oil provides important nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamins A, B12, C, and E.

With hemp-derived CBD supplements, pet owners are able to provide their dog or cat with the natural benefits of cannabinoids and dietary nutrients of hemp oil without worrying about them experiencing a “high” or any other adverse side effects. CBD itself is non-intoxicating, and hemp oil naturally contains only miniscule amounts of the THC (no more than 0.3% by dry weight). In all mammals, CBD has shown to be non-toxic and well tolerated, making CBD supplements a safe option for your dogs and cats.

How to Use CBD for Pets

Pet-specific CBD products are designed for everyday supplementing to support your pet’s well-being. There are a variety of administration methods pet owners can choose from to add CBD to a pet’s daily diet.

There are several ways to administer CBD oil products to your pets. Pet CBD products that come in a pourable liquid can be given:

  • From a Spoon: For pets who prefer the flavor of CBD oil, measure out the desired serving onto a spoon and have your cat or dog lick up the CBD liquid.
  • With a Treat: Pet owners can help motivate their pet to take their daily CBD supplement by dripping the liquid supplement onto a treat. Wide, dry treats typically work best. Some pet owners find using multiple treats can be helpful for administering a full daily serving.
  • Blend it into Food: Try mixing the CBD liquid into your pet’s wet or dry meal to help mask the flavor of CBD oil.

CBD supplements in the form of a treat can be given as a pet owner normally gives their pet a treat. A large majority of pets, particularly dogs, are motivated by pets, making CBD-infused treats a highly effective way to administer a daily supplement.

While you may be looking for a recommended “dose” of CBD in the traditional sense of dietary supplements, the fact is there is no such thing.

Dietary supplements designed for pets are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The FDA considers all supplements for pets as “feed supplements” and classifies them as either “foods” or “new animal drugs.”

The FDA, however, has not provided any type of recommended daily serving size for CBD for pets. To comply with FDA regulations, Medical Marijuana, Inc. does not list any type of Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) of our own for any of our products.

Ultimately, the amount of CBD you feel is best for your pet is up to you and your veterinarian. You may find that your dog, cat, or horse responds best with either a higher or lower CBD serving than recommended usage amounts.

When trying to determine the ideal amount of CBD for your pet, it is recommended that you first begin with a very small serving and gradually work your way up over a series of weeks. This allows you to monitor how your pet responds to the CBD supplements and helps you dial in on the optimal serving size.

Why Choose CBD for Pets?

CBD products that are specifically designed for the animals in your home offer multiple advantages:

  • Pet-suitable CBD concentrations: CBD serving sizes in pet-specific CBD products are adjusted to account for a pet’s size and weight. As nearly all pets are significantly smaller than adult humans, not as much CBD is needed to adequately stimulate the endocannabinoid system.
  • Versatile and pet-friendly forms: CBD supplements for pets come in either our dog-friendly treat form or a versatile liquid that can be easily administered in various ways.
  • Formulated with pet-friendly flavors: While many animals enjoy the light grassy flavor of CBD, for pets more particular about tastes, our CBD treats feature natural bacon and apple ingredients and cinnamon flavors.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a cannabis-derived cannabinoid that supports one of the body’s most major regulatory networks. All-natural and non-intoxicating, hemp-derived CBD is used by both humans and animals as a dietary supplement.

Once absorbed by the body, CBD interacts with cannabinoid receptors to stimulate the endocannabinoid system, a major signaling network that keeps a wide array of the body’s functions -- such as mood, sleep, appetite, hormone regulation, and immune response -- balanced and running optimally. CBD’s influence on the endocannabinoid system promotes homeostasis.

The unique variety of high-CBD hemp used to make all Phyto Animal Health CBD products is sustainably grown in European microclimates by families of farmers, who use centuries-old techniques to cultivate the crops free of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers.

All Phyto Animal Health CBD products are Triple Lab Tested™ to ensure their purity and consistency. This rigorous testing process uses independent laboratories to examine our CBD oil at three separate points during our manufacturing process. This ensures that the CBD oil contains an ideal cannabinoid concentration and that it’s free of contaminants, protecting your pet’s health.
